Hepburn. A.P.D. [sic]); 1914 Star (695 S.S. Mjr. J. Hepburn. A.P.C.); British War and Victory Medals (Lieut. J. Hepburn.); Army L.S. & G.C., G.V.R., 1st issue (695 S.Q.M. Sjt: J. Hepburn. A.P.C.) mounted as worn, the 1914 Star gilded, contact marks and minor edge bruising, generally very fine (6) £300-£400

James Hepburn was born in Gateshead-on-Tyne on 7 August 1877 and attested for the King’s Own Scottish Borderers at Berwick-on-Tweed on 7 November 1895. He transferred to the Army Pay Corps on 30 November 1897 and was promoted Corporal on 30 November 1898. He served with them in South Africa during the Boer War from 7 March 1900, and was promoted Sergeant on 30 November 1903; Staff Sergeant on 14 February 1906; Staff Quartermaster Sergeant on 14 February 1909; and Staff Sergeant Major on 30 May 1913. He was awarded his Long Service and Good Conduct Medal per Army Order of 1914, and served during the Great War at the Harve Base A.P.D. Unit from 18 August 1914. Commissioned Honorary Lieutenant as an Assistant Paymaster in the Army Pay Department on 12 February 1915, he was promoted Captain on 12 February 1918, and Major on 12 February 1930. He retired on 1 March 1944, and having emigrated post-War to Jersey, he died in Jersey of mushroom poisoning on 16 September 1948.

If you are successful in purchasing lot/s being auctioned by us and opt for the item/s to be sent to you, we will use the following methods of shipment:

Within the UK
If you live within the UK, items will be despatched using Royal Mail Special Delivery. This service provides parcel tracking (via the Royal Mail website) and next weekday delivery (betwen 9am and 1pm). Items delivered within the UK are covered by our insurance company. Heavy and bulky lots will be sent by courier, in discussion with the client.

Outside of the UK
If the item/s being sent are worth under £1000 in total they are sent using Royal Mail’s Signed For International service. This ensures the item must be signed for when it is delivered.
If the item/s being sent are valued at over £1000 in total they will be sent using FedEx. This service allows next day delivery to customers in many parts of the US and parcels are fully trackable using the FedEx website.

Shipping Exceptions
