Jubilee 1897, Metropolitan Police (P.C. R. Bird. 3rd. Divn.) in named card box of issue; Coronation 1902, Metropolitan Police, bronze (P.C. R. Bird. 1st. Div.); Coronation 1911, Metropolitan Police (P.C.. R. Bird.); together with the recipient’s riband bar, about extremely fine (3) £100-£140

R. Bird served with the Metropolitan Police, and at the time of the 1897 Diamond Jubilee was serving at Woolwich Arsenal; he subsequently transferred prior to the 1902 Coronation to H.M. Dockyard Devonport. From 1860 to 1922, the Metropolitan Police were responsible for policing Woolwich Arsenal (1st Division), as well as H.M. Dockyards Portsmouth (2nd Division), Devonport (3rd Division), Chatham (4th Division), Pembroke (5th Division), and, from 1916, Rosyth (6th Division).

Sold with six British Red Cross Society badges, for Proficiency in Red Cross Nursing (with date bars for 1937, 1939, 1943, 1944, and 1945); for Proficiency in Red Cross First-Aid (with date bars for 1938 and 1940); for Proficiency in Anti-Gas Training (with an A.R.P. bar for 1941); for Merit (with date bar for 1941); and a County of Cornwall badge, all named to ‘N. J. Rowse-Gill’; and a 3 Years’ Service badge (with three additional ‘3 Years Service’ bars), the reverse numbered ‘10676’.

If you are successful in purchasing lot/s being auctioned by us and opt for the item/s to be sent to you, we will use the following methods of shipment:

Within the UK
If you live within the UK, items will be despatched using Royal Mail Special Delivery. This service provides parcel tracking (via the Royal Mail website) and next weekday delivery (betwen 9am and 1pm). Items delivered within the UK are covered by our insurance company. Heavy and bulky lots will be sent by courier, in discussion with the client.

Outside of the UK
If the item/s being sent are worth under £1000 in total they are sent using Royal Mail’s Signed For International service. This ensures the item must be signed for when it is delivered.
If the item/s being sent are valued at over £1000 in total they will be sent using FedEx. This service allows next day delivery to customers in many parts of the US and parcels are fully trackable using the FedEx website.

Shipping Exceptions
Certain lots such as those containing glass or sharp implements, etc., may not be suitable for in-house shipping within or outside of the UK. Please contact Noonans with any queries.
