Reginald Henry Smallbone was born in Ditchling, Sussex, on 30 March 1900, and joined the Royal Navy as a Boy Second Class on 29 January 1916. He served during the Great War in a variety of ships and shore based establishments, and was promoted Able Seaman on 16 August 1918, and Leading Seaman on 17 May 1925. He joined the Royal Yacht H.M.Y. Victoria and Albert on 1 December 1928, and was promoted Seaman Rigger on 23 December 1929. Awarded his Long Service and Good Conduct Medal on 27 April 1933, it was whilst serving in the Royal Yacht that he was awarded both the 1935 Jubilee and 1937 Coronation Medals. He saw further service during the Second World War, was promoted Acting Petty Officer on 1 February 1940, and was finally shore released on 12 December 1945.

Sold with five portrait photographs of members of the Royal Family, all taken on board H.M.Y. Victoria and Albert, comprising the following groupings:
i) H.M. King George V and H.M. Queen Mary
ii) H.R.H. The Duchess of York (later H.M. Queen Elizabeth), H.R.H. The Duke of York (later H.M. King George VI), and H.M. Queen Mary.
iii) H.R.H. The Duchess of York (later H.M. Queen Elizabeth) and H.R.H. The Duke of York (later H.M. King George VI).
iv) H.R.H. The Duchess of York (later H.M. Queen Elizabeth).
v) H.R.H. The Princess Elizabeth (later H.M. Queen Elizabeth II), H.M. King George VI, H.M. Queen Elizabeth, and H.R.H. The Princess Margaret, all similarly mounted in gilt display frames.

If you are successful in purchasing lot/s being auctioned by us and opt for the item/s to be sent to you, we will use the following methods of shipment:

Within the UK
If you live within the UK, items will be despatched using Royal Mail Special Delivery. This service provides parcel tracking (via the Royal Mail website) and next weekday delivery (betwen 9am and 1pm). Items delivered within the UK are covered by our insurance company. Heavy and bulky lots will be sent by courier, in discussion with the client.

Outside of the UK
If the item/s being sent are worth under £1000 in total they are sent using Royal Mail’s Signed For International service. This ensures the item must be signed for when it is delivered.
If the item/s being sent are valued at over £1000 in total they will be sent using FedEx. This service allows next day delivery to customers in many parts of the US and parcels are fully trackable using the FedEx website.

Shipping Exceptions
