Meeanee Hyderabad 1843 (Color Serjt. Wm. Hughes, 22nd. Regt.) fitted with replacement silver clip and bar suspension; India General Service 1854-95, 1 clasp, North West Frontier (Qr. Mr. W. Hughes. H.Ms 1st. Bn. 22nd. Regt.); Indian Mutiny 1857-59, no clasp (Pay Mr. W. Hughes, 82nd. Regt.) mounted court-style for display, the first nearly very fine, otherwise good very fine and a scarce group (3) £1,600-£2,000

William Hughes served as a Colour-Sergeant with the 22nd Regiment of Foot in the campaign of 1842-43 in Scinde, including the destruction of Imaumghur, and battles of Meeanee and Hyderabad (Medal). He was employed in the campaign in the Southern Mahratta Country in 1844-45, and was present at the investment and capture of the forts of Panulla and Pownghur. He was commissioned as Ensign in September 1846, as Lieutenant in June 1849, and served on the North West Frontier of India, near Peshawur 1851-55, and took part in the expedition against the Bori Afridis in November 1853 (Medal with clasp).

Hughes was appointed Paymaster in the 82nd Regiment of Foot in April 1856, and served with the regiment in the North West Provinces in the suppression of the Great Sepoy Mutiny in 1857-58, including the operations at Cawnpore under Windham and defeat there of the Gwalior Contingent, action of Kala Nuddee, occupation of Furruckabad, defence of the Jail and subsequent operations at Shahjehanpore (Medal). Promoted to Honorary Captain on 1 April 1861 and Honorary Major on 1 April 1866, he transferred to the Half Pay List with the rank of Honorary Lieutenant-Colonel on 28 May 1870.

If you live within the UK, items will be despatched using Royal Mail Special Delivery. This service provides parcel tracking (via the Royal Mail website) and next weekday delivery (betwen 9am and 1pm). Items delivered within the UK are covered by our insurance company. Heavy and bulky lots will be sent by courier, in discussion with the client.

Outside of the UK
If the item/s being sent are worth under £1000 in total they are sent using Royal Mail’s Signed For International service. This ensures the item must be signed for when it is delivered.
If the item/s being sent are valued at over £1000 in total they will be sent using FedEx. This service allows next day delivery to customers in many parts of the US and parcels are fully trackable using the FedEx website.
