Government of Fiji, 1 Penny, 1 July 1942, serial number P/1 000004, 1 Shilling, 1 January 1942, serial number 4, and 2 Shillings, 1 January 1942, serial number 4, the three notes attached to a piece of cream-coloured card measuring 275mm x 158mm, each note only being attached along the top margin, annotated information at lower right of card, the three notes about uncirculated, however they cannot be fully examined due to their attachment to the card, nevertheless an absolutely remarkable piece of World War II history from the Pacific, and the notes with astonishingly low, matching serial numbers, fascinating, and extremely rare (3 notes)

The annotation on the card is written and signed by Algar Ronald Ward Robertson, Financial Secretary of Fiji from 1940 to 1948. He also held similar posts in Gold Coast, British Guiana, Trinidad & Tobago, and Nigeria. His signature appears on all three banknotes in this lot.

The annotation reads: After the outbreak of the 1939-45 War the Govt. of Fiji was unable to obtain cupro-nickel or copper coin from the United Kingdom. The Govt. Printer, Suva, produced these 1/:, 2/: notes & many hundreds of thousands were issued. The penny note was produced in Australia. ARW Robertson (signature).

If you are successful in purchasing lot/s being auctioned by us and opt for the item/s to be sent to you, we will use the following methods of shipment:

Within the UK
If you live within the UK, items will be despatched using Royal Mail Special Delivery. This service provides parcel tracking (via the Royal Mail website) and next weekday delivery (betwen 9am and 1pm). Items delivered within the UK are covered by our insurance company. Heavy and bulky lots will be sent by courier, in discussion with the client.

Outside of the UK
If the item/s being sent are worth under £1000 in total they are sent using Royal Mail’s Signed For International service. This ensures the item must be signed for when it is delivered.
If the item/s being sent are valued at over £1000 in total they will be sent using FedEx. This service allows next day delivery to customers in many parts of the US and parcels are fully trackable using the FedEx website.

Shipping Exceptions
