Dammann, female figure standing left on a cliff-top, attaching wings to ankles, rev. birds with young taking off from cliff-top, field engraved (Istres-Damas, Paris, 20-21 Août 1937), edge impressed bronze and cornucopia, 90mm, 232.56g (CGMP p.115; cf. Kölner Münzkabinett 111, 1242; cf. Baldwin 81, 3541; cf. Noonans 264, 916). Extremely fine, rare; in maroon fitted case of issue £200-£260

Resistance to a proposition to commemorate the 10th anniversary of Charles Lindbergh's pioneering solo flight from New York to Paris by staging a race across the Atlantic forced the organising Aero-Club de France to change the route so that the event started in Istres and, via a stop in Damascus, finished in Paris, a total distance of 6,190 km. The winning pilot and navigator would be awarded 1.5 million FF. Thirteen crews took part, among them Bruno Mussolini, son of the Italian dictator. Lt-Col Ranieri Cupini (1904-83) and Lt-Col Amadeo Paradisi won the event, arriving at Le Bourget on 21 August 1937 after 17 hours 32 minutes aboard their Savoia-Marchetti S-79. Italian crews also took second and third places

Outside of the UK
If the item/s being sent are worth under £1000 in total they are sent using Royal Mail’s Signed For International service. This ensures the item must be signed for when it is delivered.
