FRANCE, Baptême du Prince Impérial [Baptism of the Prince Imperial], 1856, a presentation pair of silver and copper medals by A.-A. Caqué, Napoleon III standing and holding his infant son, Empress standing at right, revs. names of towns in France and Algeria invited to the ceremony in rays around central legend, edges impressed argent and hand, cuivre and hand, both 69mm, silver 166.26g, copper 138.62g (Page-Divo 314; Escande 40; BDM I, 344; cf. Künker 349, 5677; cf. DNW 37, 1147). Mint state, most attractive and very rare; in official octagonal green gilt-blocked case of issue, lid bearing the Imperial arms £600-£800

Napoléon Eugène Louis Jean Joseph Bonaparte (1856-79) was baptised at Notre Dame Cathedral on 14 June 1856; his godfather was Pope Pius IX. Following the demise of the Second Empire, he and his family removed to England, where the 16-year old prince joined the Royal Military Academy, Woolwich, and then the Royal Artillery. At the outbreak of the Zulu War the prince petitioned to go to Africa and was granted permission by his mother and Queen Victoria, but he was killed on 1 June 1879 when his troop was overwhelmed in an ambush at Sobhuza’s kraal, near Ulundi

If you live within the UK, items will be despatched using Royal Mail Special Delivery. Heavy and bulky lots will be sent by courier, in discussion with the client.
Outside of the UK
If the item/s being sent are worth under £1000 in total they are sent using Royal Mail’s Signed For International service. This ensures the item must be signed for when it is delivered.
If the item/s being sent are valued at over £1000 in total they will be sent using FedEx. This service allows next day delivery to customers in many parts of the US and parcels are fully trackable using the FedEx website.
