British War Medal 1914-20 (J. Higgins. Ord. M.F.A.); Canadian Volunteer Service Medal; War Medal 1939-45, Canadian issue in silver; Canadian Forces Decoration, G.VI.R. (F/S J. Higgins) mounted for display together with the ribands for the 1914-15 Star and the Victory Medal, the BWM polished and worn, this fine; the GVIR awards good very fine

John Higgins served in the Mercantile Fleet Auxiliary during the Great War, and then for six years in the inter-War years with the Black Watch. Emigrating to Canada, he served with the Royal Canadian Air Force fro m 7 February 1940 to 14 March 1952.

Richard William Fernandez was born in Landport, Hampshire, on 5 April 1869 and joined the Royal Navy as a Domestic Third Class in April 1887. He served in H.M.S. Terrible as a Leading Stoker during both the Boer War and Boxer Rebellion (entitled to a no clasp Queen’s South Africa Medal and a no clasp China Medal), and was advanced Chief Stoker in April 1905. Transferring to the Royal Fleet Reserve in May 1910, he was awarded his Long Service and Good Conduct Medal that same year, before being seconded to the Royal Canadian Navy for three years in July 1910. He saw further service during the Great War, and was Mentioned in Despatches (London Gazette 5 October 1918). Discharged in June 1919, he died in Portsmouth in 1928.

If you are successful in purchasing lot/s being auctioned by us and opt for the item/s to be sent to you, we will use the following methods of shipment:

Within the UK
If you live within the UK, items will be despatched using Royal Mail Special Delivery. This service provides parcel tracking (via the Royal Mail website) and next weekday delivery (betwen 9am and 1pm). Items delivered within the UK are covered by our insurance company. Heavy and bulky lots will be sent by courier, in discussion with the client.

Outside of the UK
If the item/s being sent are worth under £1000 in total they are sent using Royal Mail’s Signed For International service. This ensures the item must be signed for when it is delivered.
If the item/s being sent are valued at over £1000 in total they will be sent using FedEx. This service allows next day delivery to customers in many parts of the US and parcels are fully trackable using the FedEx website.

Shipping Exceptions
Certain lots such as those containing glass or sharp implements, etc., may not be suitable for in-house shipping within or outside of the UK. Please contact Noonans with any queries.
