Queen Elizabeth II, was sometime President of the Rugby Football Union, and was the Manager of the British Lions tour to Australia and New Zealand in 1950

The Most Honourable Order of the Bath, C.B. (Military) Companion’s neck badge, silver-gilt and enamel, with full-sized and miniature width neck riband, in Central Chancery case of issue; 1939-45 Star; Atlantic Star; Defence and War Medals 1939-45; U.N. Korea 1950-54, unnamed as issued; Coronation 1953, unnamed as issued, mounted as worn; together with one of the recipient’s Rear-Admiral’s shoulder boards, with both G.VI.R. and EII.R. Aide-de-Camp badges, about extremely fine (7) £800-£1,000

Leslie Bartlet Osborne was born on 16 September 1900 and was educated at Caterham School and Guy’s Hospital, London. Appointed a Dental House Surgeon at Guy’s in 1923, that same year he entered the Royal Navy as a Surgeon Lieutenant, and was advanced Surgeon Commander in 1956; Surgeon Captain ion 1948; and Surgeon Rear-Admiral in 1954. He served as Honorary Dental Surgeon to both H.M. King George VI and H.M. Queen Elizabeth II, and it was in this latter capacity that he was present at the Coronation in 1953. Appointed Deputy Director-General for Dental Services in the Royal Navy in 1954, he was created a Companion of the Order of the Bath in the 1956 Birthday Honours’ List, and retired in 1957.

A keen Rugby Football player and supporter, Osborne played Rugby for the Royal Navy, and served as Manager of the British Lions on the 1950 tour of Australia and New Zealand, the first tour that the Lions had undertaken since the Second World War, which saw them win 22 of the 29 matches they played during the Tour (of the four Test Matches they played against New Zealand they drew one and lost three, and of the two Test Matches they played against Australia they won both). He subsequently served as Chairman of the England Selection Committee, and was President of the Rugby Football Union in 1956-57. He died on 26 February 1989.

Sold with a copy of a letter from the recipient’s grand-daughter, and three photographic images of the recipient, but no original documentation.

If you live within the UK, items will be despatched using Royal Mail Special Delivery. This service provides parcel tracking (via the Royal Mail website) and next weekday delivery (betwen 9am and 1pm). Items delivered within the UK are covered by our insurance company. Heavy and bulky lots will be sent by courier, in discussion with the client.

Outside of the UK
If the item/s being sent are worth under £1000 in total they are sent using Royal Mail’s Signed For International service. This ensures the item must be signed for when it is delivered.
If the item/s being sent are valued at over £1000 in total they will be sent using FedEx. This service allows next day delivery to customers in many parts of the US and parcels are fully trackable using the FedEx website.

Shipping Exceptions
